Every year at the end of the school year and for 10 weeks, Encore opens its doors for its filled music, dance, visual arts summer camp welcoming children ages 4 to 13 years old.Kids are divided into groups based on their age, not their music or dance proficiency. We teach all groups the same classes tailored to their specific age group and all our classes are taught by our professional teachers, the same who teach at our school during the school year.
From Monday through Thursday, our focus is on music appreciation lessons, acting classes; and while the girls take flamenco/spanish dance, modern and cuban dance classes, the boys have ensemble, an energy filled class where they explore the drums, piano, bass and electric guitar.
As if they don’t have enough fun during the week, Fridays we go on field trips. We have taken the kids to the movies at their request but we try to focus on cultural activities that complement what we are teaching them during the summer camp. We have gone on backstage tours of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. We have taken the kids to see theater performances at the Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables. We have also gone on field trips to the Pérez Art Museum.
All this preparation and learning comes together at our End of Summer Camp Show. By the time the show comes along, the kids will have learned tremendously but most importantly, they will have developed their interest for music, dance and art. They will have created new friends and new interests.
Kids have so much fun in our summer camp that I have never seen one willing to go when his/her parents come to pick them up. It truly makes us all at Encore happy to see how involved and excited the kids get in our summer camp program.
