Ms. Karelia Moreno is a perfect example of dedication and passion for teaching and counseling, for she is always committed to inspiring and helping her students and clients in each of her several fields of work.
Originally trained as a Classical pianist and a musicologist, as a child Ms. Moreno studied elementary music and piano performance with professor Juana Mora at the “Guillermo Tomás Conservatory” in her hometown Havana, Cuba. Later in 1994 she received a Bachelor Degree in Musicology from the “Instituto Superior de Arte” (ISA.)
Ms. Moreno settled in the US in 1995 and began working as a music teacher in the Miami-Dade Public Schools system while continuing her higher education. She holds two Master’s Degree -one in Science Education, from “Nova South Eastern University” in 2010,- and another in Psychology – Mental Health Counseling in 2011. Currently Ms. Moreno is a member of the American Counseling Association, while she continues to work for the Public Schools system, as well as working for the Institute of Child and Family Health. In addition, she still finds the time to perform in concert recitals in the Miami area.
Ms. Moreno joined the staff of the “Encore Academy of the Arts” in 2015 as a piano teacher for students of all levels. Her excellent work during these years at Encore, as all of the work she has been doing with children for almost 30 years, could be best defined in her own words: “I like to inspire and assist my students by creatively combining different teaching strategies, adjusting them according to their needs in order to invoke their higher-order skills and their success.”
Karelia is a superb piano professor. Not only in her knowledge and experience in the art of playing piano, but also in the care and true concern for the student and how the student should properly study and play the music. She is loving, kind and respectful of the child's learning habits, but at the same time is able transform the child's learning process for the better. The improvement my daughters have shown since she became their professor less than a year ago is amazing! I cannot recommend her enough. Thank you Karelia!
